Helping Officers and Staff of Sussex Police in times of need, hardship or distress

If you find yourself in circumstances that leave you in need, hardship or distress please make contact with The Sussex Police Charitable Trust Adviser.

The Adviser will assess your needs and will offer advice and guidance at the outset. The Adviser will also assess whether an application for financial assistance is appropriate and will then advocate on your behalf to the Executive Committee of the relevant Trust. All applications are presented on an anonymous basis to preserve confidentiality, and assessed on an individual basis. In most cases, any assistance agreed will be paid directly to the provider of a service that you require.

Where it is felt to be appropriate for a subscribing member to apply for an interest free Sussex Police Charitable Trusts loan, an income and expenditure assessment will be carried out, and whenever possible, the Sussex Police Charitable Trust Adviser will sit down with you and discuss all realistic options. Sussex Police Charitable Trusts loans are an important facility for those members who have a genuine need and will be provided to assist a member to fulfil that need quickly, with repayments set to clear the loan over an agreed period of time directly from your salary

Sussex Police Charitable Trust members pay a monthly subscription, which is deducted from salary. Membership is obtained through the Sussex Police Health and Wellbeing Unit by completing an application form.

The present monthly subscriptions are:

Sussex Police Charitable Trusts - £3.00
Sussex Police Staff Charitable - Trusts £2.50
Sussex Police Pensioners - automatic non-subscribing members

Existing members will remain eligible to seek the assistance of the Sussex Police Charitable Trusts whilst employed by Sussex Police, even when subscriptions have been temporarily suspended, e.g. maternity leave.

If you are experiencing difficulties, as a Sussex Police Charitable Trust member, we are here to help and support you. Each case of need, hardship or distress will be unique and varied, but that will not dilute its impact on you and we urge you to get in touch.
