The Sussex Police Death Benefit Scheme was created in 1968 specifically for the purpose of providing immediate financial help to the designated beneficiaries of Sussex Police Officers or Sussex Police Staff who are members of the Scheme, and die whilst in service. This scheme is administered through the Sussex Police Charitable Trusts.
If the death of a serving Sussex Police officer or Sussex Police Staff member is reported, and they are identified as being a member of the Sussex Police Death Benefit Scheme, £1 will be collected from each member of the Scheme via the next Sussex Police payroll. The full monies collected from Scheme members will be due to the designated beneficiary(ies) of the deceased. The Sussex Police Charitable Trusts are able to provide an estimated settlement amount within 24 hours of the notification, which ensures immediate financial support. Any difference is then paid out once the payroll run has taken place.
It is important that the Death Benefit Scheme member makes an appropriate choice of beneficiary and keeps this under review, as the Trustees can only make the settlement with the designated beneficiary.
